Poverty in Nigeria: The Challenge We Face
Nigeria is a country of immense potential, but it also faces significant challenges in combating poverty. In 2023, the poverty rate reached 38.9%, with an estimated 87 million Nigerians living below the poverty line — the world’s second-largest poor population after India (World Bank, 2024). According to the Multidimensional Poverty Index (2022), 62.9% of Nigerians are multidimensionally poor, experiencing deprivations in at least 26% of weighted indicators. The average deprivation score among poor people was 40.9%, with poverty being more prevalent in rural areas, where 72% of the population lives in poverty.
Our Work
At Affable Development Ambassadors Initiative (ADAI), we are committed to addressing the root causes of poverty and empowering vulnerable communities across Nigeria. Through our comprehensive programs, we focus on education, food security, health, emergency response, and advocacy to create sustainable change and improve the quality of life for individuals, households, and communities.
